Well, this comes a little late, but in June my students and me did a very cool 2-day-excursion in Hamburg. We visited two publishing houses, Der Spiegel and GEOmini, saw lots of art in the Museum für Kunst und Gewerbe and at the Lead Award exhibition, were told many insights into the illustration business by Jonas Lauströer and Igor Kuprin and had fun doing sight seeing and drawing Hamburg's nightlife.

3x3 Children's Show

Hooray, this is so cool, two of my works have been picked for the 3x3 annual Children's Show. This illustration got a gold medal. It's a work for "Das Meer Seiner Worte", published with Baha'i-Verlag.

The second prize I got was bronze for my lovely penguin, "Pengouin glacé", which was published with La Joie de Lire.

Coming out in September!!!!!!! "Voller Freude macht sich der kleine Hirte auf den Weg nach Bethlehem. Auch er möchte das göttliche Kind besuchen, von dem die himmlischen Boten berichtet haben. Ein Räuber hört ebenfalls den jubelnden Gesang. Doch er kann die Worte nicht verstehen. „Die feiern ein Fest“, denkt er. Und da er so hungrig ist, schleicht er sich an den kleinen Hirten heran, um zu sehen, was er rauben kann. Der kleine Hirte aber verschenkt seine Gaben an Menschen, die noch weniger besitzen als er. An SCBWI member since 2007, Constanze is also the author/illustrator of CACHE-CACHE (Joie de lire; Les Versatiles edition, 2009) and PINGOUIN GLACE (La joie de lire). She is an award-winning, German based illustrator and author. She has a wide variety of clients in the illustration industry, including publishing houses, magazines, newspapers, and design companies.

Constanze's work has been published and exhibited in Germany, the USA, Korea, the UK, Cyprus, France, Italy, Japan, Canada, Denmark, Ireland, China, the Netherlands, and Spain. In 2010 her illustrations have been selected for the Illustrator's Exhibition at the Bologna Children's Book Fair (Italy) and for the cj Book exhibition (Korea).

I got a wonderful package today: my friend Maral sent me this wonderful book that I couldn't purchase in Bologna. It's by Sandra Poirot Cherif, published with Rue du Monde, and tells the story of an immigrant girl, who tries to live a normal life but is constantly followed by a bird, symbolizing imminent deportation:

Hooray, my illustrations were chosen to be exhibited at the CJ Picture Book Festival in South Korea. But as I hadn't heard from them until now, I did send the selected illustrations to the Bologna Illustrator's Competition a couple of weeks ago. To complicate matters even further, I forgot which three illustrations I chose exactly to send, so I will have to double check with them, in order to be allowed to send in high-quality prints. Message to all non-artistic people: Never envy artist's creative chaos!!!

This owl was originally illustrated for an article of the Illustration Organisation for the Eselsohr magazine. From there, it became the cover of a little pamphlet, promoting illustrators, where it was spotted at the Leipzig Book Fair by Mr. Helms of the association Zeitzer Forst, who contacted me. I actually took a while, but now the logo is ready!

Eselsohr, IO Sedcards and VISUELL

This little owl was originally created to decorate an article, written by IO-member Jens R. Nielsen in the magazine Eselsohr, the IO-logo was supposed to be part of it. After that the illustration was used on the cover of a flyer, advertising the new IO-sedcards. Then the owl found itself in yet another article in the magazine VISUELL, were the IO itself was introduced. And last but not least, the original illustration served as a birthday present to my former colleague Iris Kuhlman, grafic designer for Der Spiegel. Not bad!
